A number of new elements were chosen for the king's coronation:

- Before the king takes his coronation oath, the Archbishop of Canterbury will explain in a newly written essay that the Church of England will seek to promote an environment where 'people of all faiths and beliefs can live freely'.
- For the first time, the coronation service will include other languages associated with the British Isles – with a prayer in Welsh and a hymn (Veni Creator) sung in Welsh, Scottish Gaelic and Irish Gaelic.
- The Peer Tribute has been replaced by a People's Tribute: Those watching and listening at home and elsewhere will be invited to pay their respects by sharing the same words - a chorus of millions of voices that for the first time in history have been able to participate.
- Female bishops will attend the coronation for the first time. Rev. and Reverend Lady Sarah Mullally DBE, Bishop of London; Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin, Bishop of Dover and Bishop of Canterbury; and pastor Dr. Guli Francis-Dehqani, Bishop of Chelmsford, will play a role in the coronation service.
- To mirror the global Anglican Communion, the Anglican Archbishop of Jerusalem will participate in the anointing by presenting the Coronation Chrism Oil to the Archbishop of Canterbury, thus completing its journey from where it was enshrined in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.
- The presentation of the Regalia will be made by members of the House of Lords as well as senior bishops from the Church of England. For the first time, some of these objects – those without Christian meaning or symbolism – will be presented by peers belonging to different religious traditions: Judaism, Islam, Hinduism and Sikhism.
- At the conclusion of the procession at the end of the service, before the King proceeds to the Gold State Coach, he will receive and acknowledge a spoken salute delivered in chorus by representatives of the Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Muslim and Buddhist communities.

When Charles is crowned, leaders of Jewish, Hindu, Sikh, Muslim and Buddhist groups will greet the king in unison, which he will acknowledge.
They are Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis, leader of the country's Buddhists, Venerable Bogoda Seelawimala, prominent Sikh broadcaster Lord Singh of Wimbledon, Hindu representative Radha Mohan das and Muslim Aliya Azam, an interfaith coordinator for Al-Khoei.
And when the Regalia are presented to the King; Sikh, Hindu, Muslim and Jewish couples will attend and present items that have no Christian meaning or symbolism.
The move reflects Charles' belief in promoting unity between different faiths by advocating interfaith dialogue and celebrating the major religions practiced in Britain.
The Archbishop, who will deliver a sermon during the service, said: 'The coronation is first and foremost a Christian act of worship.
'The signs, symbols and language we use remind us that our God is the Servant King. By his anointing into this service, His Majesty King Charles III is appointed to fulfill his call of service and duty to us all.
'This is the nature of royalty today. In this weighty responsibility, the king will be supported by the loyal service of his wife, Queen Camilla.
'I am delighted that the service recognizes and celebrates tradition and speaks to the great history of our nation, our customs and those who came before us. At the same time, the service contains new elements that reflect the diversity of our contemporary society.
'It is my prayer that all who attend this service, whether of faith or not, will find ancient wisdom and new hope that bring inspiration and joy.'
Archbishop Welby has followed the long tradition of commissioning a new coronation liturgy with the theme 'Called to Serve'.
The senior cleric chaired an advisory group of experts in theology, constitutional history and interfaith relations to draft the service, drawn up in close consultation with the king and the government.
Also new will be a 'people's tribute' to replace colleagues' tributes, with a global television audience estimated at tens of millions invited to pay tribute of their own, sharing the same words.
A spokesman for Lambeth Palace said they expected there would be "a huge outcry across the country and around the world in support of the King".
But plans to ask the public to swear allegiance to the king were branded "offensive, tone-deaf and a gesture that disdains the people" by a pressure group.
Graham Smith, spokesman for Republic, which is campaigning for the abolition of the monarchy and its replacement by a directly elected head of state, said: 'In a democracy it is the head of state who must pledge allegiance to the people, not the other way around.
"This sort of nonsense should have died with Elizabeth I, not survived Elizabeth II."
Lambeth Palace said it hoped the significant change to the historic service would result in a "huge outcry across the country and around the world in support of the King" from those watching on TV, online or gathered outdoors in large screens.
It replaces the traditional Homage of Peers, where a long line of hereditary peers would kneel and make a pledge to the monarch in person.
A spokesman for Lambeth Palace said the honor was "much more of an invitation than an expectation or request". People can participate if it feels right to them, as they would participate in the national anthem.

Before the king is sworn in, making a series of pledges including the "maintenance in the United Kingdom of the Reformed Protestant religion established by law", the archbishop will deliver a foreword to Charles' declaration - another first.
The senior priest will tell the congregation that the Church of England, led by the King, will seek to promote an environment where 'people of all faiths and beliefs can live freely' - in line with the words of the late Queen and Charles.
During the ceremony, Charles will be declared a 'Defender of the Faith' by Archbishop Welby after he once spoke of his desire to become a 'Defender of the Faith'.
