Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (1)

Emperor Palpatine is the ultimate embodiment of evil in the Star Wars universe. From humble beginnings as a mere senator, Sheev Palpatine used extremely manipulative tactics to create galactic wars that resulted in the loss of trillions of lives and even more resources, yet he was able to profit regardless of the outcome of the war. , and benefit he did.

Eliminating the Jedi Order and willingly being elected Emperor of the newly formed Galactic Empire, Palpatine's selfish reign of terror has only just begun.

In addition to his cunning, the Emperor also went by Darth Sidious and was a master of the Dark Side of the Force, which he used without mercy.

Of course, anyone who has seen the original trilogy or the Star Wars TV shows knows that the Emperor is capable of using lightning or force foresight, but the extent of his skill with these techniques goes beyond what you might think. In fact, he has a whole arsenal of powers ranging from terrifying to absurd that you've probably never heard of.

To set the record straight, we're going to discuss 15 powers you didn't know the Emperor had, and we're going to put together our contributions from canon and legend.

15 Sith Alchemy

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (2)

In our own world, the concept of alchemy has existed for centuries. Alchemy is the art and "science" of transforming objects, such as the famous example of turning lead into gold, while supposedly having the means to create eternal life through certain elixirs.

Of course, none of this ever came to fruition as far as most scientists can tell, but that doesn't mean alchemy didn't work a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

Being a follower of the dark side and trained in the history of the Sith, it is no surprise that Palpatine was knowledgeable and skilled in the secrets of Sith Alchemy, which he used for a variety of purposes, including creating specific and customized races of Rancor to keep as pets pets. The Emperor even wrote a book on the subject, called The Creation of Monsters, further proving his expertise.

14 Jar'Kai swinger i duel

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (3)

While the prequel trilogy is deep and obviously flawed on multiple levels, one positive element that most can agree on is the beautiful balletic lightsaber choreography, which, while not always practical, served as incredible eye candy.

In Revenge of the Sith, when Palpatine is confronted by the Jedi about being a Sith Lord, we finally get a chance to see the great manipulator in action as he swings his lightsaber for the first time on screen, attacking and defeating his would-be conqueror..

Afterwards, Sidious is shown to be so skilled in lightsaber technique that he can even stand up to the extremely skilled Yoda, which was no mean feat.

In addition to the films, Sidious was also trained in Jar'Kai, which is the art of lightsaber dueling, which he used to great effect against his former apprentice, Darth Maul, and his brother, Savage Opress.

13 Almost immortality

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (4)

In the original trilogy, Yoda was revealed to be around nine hundred years old, which is a staggering number for us Earthlings who can barely make it a century if we're lucky.

While longevity may be a hallmark of Yoda's race, it could be argued that his affiliation with the Force also extended his lifespan. Unfortunately, this also means that a person attuned to the dark side can have the exact same effect, and that was the case for Emperor Palpatine himself.

As the Emperor lived well beyond his natural lifespan, he also remained reasonably healthy (if we can use that word to describe his haggard and sickly appearance).

More worrying is the fact that despite his advanced age and frail physical appearance, he was still extremely powerful, agile and formidable in battle if he chose to.

12 Total strength of persuasion

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (5)

The Jedi Mind Trick is a beloved Star Wars prop and often a source of comedy. Using the Force, a Jedi can make a "proposal" to their target using pre-existing latent desires and achieve a result in their favor by making the recipient of the trick indulge their subconscious whims, which bored the Stormtroopers who ignoring Luke. and Obi-Wan on Tatooine.

While this is all fun and games, the Emperor has a much more extreme version of the "mind trick" at his disposal, and it's much less of a proposition. Using the dark side, Palpatine can "talk" his target into doing what he wants, even if he subconsciously doesn't want to do it.

He can take control of someone else's body using his Force mastery, which leads to a far darker result than getting a drug dealer to stop selling death sticks.

11 Unique weather forecast

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (6)

One of the powers on this list that seems obvious at first glance is Emperor Palpatine's gift of foresight. He mentions this throughout the series, often saying "everything is going as [he] predicted". This skill is not about your overall prediction ability, but rather the enormous and terrifying level of accuracy that your actual prediction brings.

While there are many others with this power throughout the various trilogies and entries in the Star Wars canon, Palpatine has a mastery of this ability that would make even the Jedi Council seem inadequate.

It was also this special gift that allowed Palpatine to accurately and efficiently gain power through his fake wars and even intricately engineered the end of the Rebellion against Endor. Of course, his power isn't one hundred percent perfect, which contributed to his own death, but he was still a force to be reckoned with.

10 Sith Magic

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (7)

The existence of Sith Magic spanned millennia, beginning with the original Sith in the early days of the Star Wars universe. Although many of their practices and rituals have fallen by the wayside, along with other aspects of their culture, Palpatine has long rediscovered and studied its ways, incorporating much of this lost art into his personal life and usage.

Using some of these ancient rituals and techniques, Palpatine would examine his food and drink to ensure that no one tried to assassinate or maim him through poison.

Going further than that, Darth Sidious was also known to use the ancient Sith language for certain spells and incantations, along with the Balc language, which he used in a spell against Master Yoda while battling the spirit of Darth Bane.

9 Force Lightning Mastery

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (8)

Much like our entry into Emperor Palpatine's prediction, his use of the Lightning Force seems like an extremely obvious power at first glance. But it is the mastery of this skill that goes beyond the basic demonstrations of power we saw in the film and goes deeper into the territory of secret techniques.

At the same time, Force Lightning was a shocking display (pun intended) for audiences watching Return of the Jedi for the first time. Unfortunately, as the years went by, more and more characters seemed to randomly use this power, be it Count Dooku or even Kyle Katarn, seriously tarnishing his reputation.

Of course, as the master of the Force, Palpatine was able to manipulate his lightning force like no other, being able to weaponize countless opponents in a chain reaction and even pinpoint its devastating effects on various starships' internal systems and bring them down. below.

8 Extreme telepathy

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (9)

While The Last Jedi continued to divide audiences well after its release, it revealed some interesting aspects of the Force, particularly the ability to not only allow powerful users to communicate, but to make them appear and appear physically present.

This is an extremely powerful display of mastery of power, and something the Emperor himself seemed unable to do. That said, Palpatine was still no slouch in the telepathy department, despite his inability to see Kylo Ren shirtless in a Force Skype session.

While previous trilogies have shown relatively short range communication between Luke, Leia and even Darth Vader, the Emperor defeated them all by being able to contact Darth Vader light years away with ease. Again, not quite as impressive as what the new trilogy showed, but for its time it was monumental.

7 Pirocinese

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (10)

Pyrokinesis is a popular power in much fantasy and fiction. Simply put, it is a form of magic or sorcery that allows the user to create or manipulate the element of fire. It's no surprise that this power found its way into Star Wars fiction, and even less of a surprise that the Emperor has it as part of his repertoire of deadly powers.

In James Luceon's novel Darth Plagueis, future Emperor Darth Sidious opened his bag of tricks and Force powers and chose pyrokinesis as his tool to eliminate Senator Pax Teem.

(Video) The ONLY Sith That Sidious Refused to Teach Vader About - Star Wars Explained

With a simple manipulation of a nearby bonfire, the Emperor created a raging inferno that incinerated the Senator and furthered his own and Plaguei's goals.

6 Complete control over the tank

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (11)

Throughout the three (so far) Star Wars trilogies, Force users, good and bad, have often commented on being able to "feel" what others are feeling, or what emotions and potential they hold within them.

Like many common techniques and powers, however, Emperor Palpatine has a much more potent and extreme understanding of their basic functions, taking them to heights rarely equaled or dreamed of.

Such is their ability to not only have heightened "senses" but also to hide their own thoughts from any unwanted probing.

Taking things even further, Palpatine is able to cloud the senses of the entire Jedi Council, operating in complete secrecy and his ultimate tyrannical plans being discovered too late. Being able to hide his thoughts and block so many powerful Jedi Masters like Yoda is a testament to Palpatine's supremacy.

5 point of failure

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (12)

Chuck Wendig's novel Aftermath: Empire's End is the final entry in the trio of books that aims to explain what happened between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens in order to properly set up the new canon.

Of course, no one is quite sure why the movies themselves don't include this content (or even attempt to explain the intervening time in a meaningful context), but the books are still worth reading for Universe fans.

Inside Empire's End, we learn of a new Force ability, called the "breaking point" after the Emperor's description. Similar to Force prediction and the evolved version of Emperor, Shatterpoint allows the user to feel a moment of historical significance.

In this particular case, Luke's presence in Tydirium triggered the Emperor's senses and told him that history was about to change.

4 food manipulation

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (13)

While the Force allowed Emperor Palpatine to live an abnormally long life, death is an inevitability for all living things, something Sidious was aware of. To combat the incident of an untimely death, the Emperor prepared the extremely dangerous and radical technique of transferring his life force into a cloned body in order to live again.

Using clone bodies, Palpatine was able to save himself from the beyond at least twice, rewriting the host's soul and personality in the process, but also had other methods of self-preservation, such as inhabiting the corpses of non-cloned individuals.

Perhaps most disturbing was the fact that Palpatine was able to drain the life force out of entire planetary populations to sustain himself and his apprentices, leaving billions of victims in a vegetative state.

3 Sort Aura

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (14)

While many of Darth Sidious's Force powers are used for manipulation, coercion, and planning, a select few have been used as purely offensive weapons, such as his extremely technical take on Force Lightning. In addition to this, however, he had the ability to conjure up what is known as a "dark aura".

Where lightning was capable of electrocuting and wounding, black aura was capable of methodically torturing an opponent. Using a contained storm of the Force, the aura would create a field that would slow down the victim, eliminating their ability to escape while horribly torturing them in the process, surely giving Palpatine his infamous smile and letting out a hearty laugh.

The most devastating part of his "dark aura" technique was that it could be used on multiple victims at once, creating a cacophony of despair.

2 flight

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (15)

The Last Jedi drew a lot of ire for a certain moment with Leia. If you haven't seen the movie, the Resistance flagship's bridge is destroyed, sucking its occupants into space, killing everyone except General Leia, who uses the Force to survive the vacuum and then propels herself back to the ship. cosmos for a brief moment.

Whether that part was awesome or terrible to you isn't without precedent in the series, and Emperor Palpatine likes to demonstrate.

Using the Force, Palpatine was known to fly and float during battle and beyond, whether as an offensive attack or a means of retreat, which he masterfully incorporated into both strategies. Although he never got the chance to try it in space, it seems likely that with his immense control over the dark side it would be a piece of cake.

1 Force Storm

Star Wars 15 Powers You Didn't Know Emperor Palpatine Had - (16)

Even before reading this list of lesser-known powers, it was clear that Emperor Palpatine was one of the most powerful characters in all of Star Wars.

He had mastered basic skills like charisma, leadership, deception, and manipulation, but he also had an entire arsenal of deadly Force powers to aid him in his quest for unlimited power. Man can fly, live forever, shoot lightning from his hands and control entire people with just a thought.

He can also destroy space-time.

That's right, Palpatine's ultimate power is what is known as "Force Storm," a technique that allowed him to open a wormhole through spacetime, essentially destroying anything he saw fit.

However, unlike the rest of his powers, which he mastered with confidence, this devastating Force Storm was something he admittedly did not have complete control over, and that's saying something.

Can you think of any other powers that the infamous Emperor from Star Wars has? Sound off in the comments!
